Team


Each Race team member has committed to participation in three SM events within the 2014 race season and will be receiving expert training from team coach Jarmo Haminka. The team is also supported by HyviTera for physio and osteopathy requirements, Sello Bikes for cycling equipment and Bioracer, who as the team sponsor supports with team race apparel.


The team aims to be highly competitive within the SM race series and team members have all placed in the top 3 in their age groups in recent SM triathlon events. And remember "we do not stop when we are tired, we only stop when we are done :)".

Here is a brief introduction to the team;

Erwin Borremans

Erwin, a 36 yr old native belgian living in Finland has been racing as a triathlete since 2010 after years of teaching grade school and being an active sportsman.  He is one of the founders of the HyPy triathlon team and has been the chair of the club for the last 3 years. His best results in 2013 include 2nd AG place in the Finnish half distance championships in Joroinen and also in the OD  in Kuopio. He is actively supported by his wife Marjo and 3 children, Kasper , Lotte and Mette. Before becoming a triathlete Erwin has been successful in many other endurance sports winning the Finnish snowshoe running champs 3 years in a row and a few years ago was the fastest man in Finland on a kicksled. His goals for 2014 are ‘to do his very best all season starting at half IM Mallorca in may and ending at the OD in Kuopio in august. Erwin's ultimate goal is to qualify for the triathlon champs within the next  5 years.


Jouni Westerholm

Jouni debuted in Triathlon in 2010 and soon found his 6 years  experience competing in mountain biking at a national level set him in good stead for triathlon racing . Jouni races in the 50-54 year old age group and his best results include 1st place M50 in the Finnish 2013 off road triathlon championships, 3rd place in M45 2012 winter triathlon Finnish Champs, 3rd place in M50 Finnish 2013 half distance champs and a 7th place in M50 2013 Challenge Barcelona IM.


Päivi Rantala

Päivi brings some special ingredients to the team being the sole women’s representative and the only member to hail from a competitive swimming background. She debuted in triathlon in 2010 and quickly reached a competitive level in 2012 with 3rd AG place in the Finnish half distance championship and 1st place in the Finnish Olympic distance championships. In 2013 she maintained the pace with 3rd places in both the Sprint and Olympic distance at the Finnish championships. 2014 will see Päivi testing new limits as she races for the first time at the full IM distance in Kalmar, Sweden.



Janne Lehtonen

Janne, 33, is an avid sportsman coming from a long running background having completed around 35 half and full marathons with best times of 1:23 and 2:58 respectively. Janne has been competing in triathlon at a national level since 2008 with best times over the half and full IM distances of 4:41 and 10:18 respectively. He podiumed with 2nd AG places for both distances in the 2013 Finnish champs. Janne also regularly competes in the suulkava rowing race, Finland’s biggest boat race, with a 60 km route and up to 10,000 rowers.



Steve Joyce

Steve is a Kiwi living in Finland with his Finnish wife, Maria and their daughter, Mia. Steve debuted in triathlon in 2008 after being inspired by the vigorous Singapore triathlon community and currently races in the 50-54 year old age group. Results include 3rd AG place in the Finnish half distance championships, 1st AG place in the Lombok Triathlon, 2nd AG places in Bali Intl OD, Bintan OD and Sastamala 70.3. He raced a sub 5 Hr time in the 70.3 World Champs and is now looking to move up the diastance after completing his first full distance race in 2013 with a 12th AG place.
